Companies across Asia-Pacific continue to focus on gaining competitive advantage by transforming their digital business models, accelerating their digital transformation and innovation, increasingly adopting cloud applications, and strengthening their digital ecosystems.

However, all of these digital and transformative efforts result in a constant proliferation of data, which not only requires a broader and modern approach to management, but expands the attack surfaces of enterprises as malicious actors seek to attack this most valuable business asset.

This data management and protection challenge becomes even more complex as enterprises extend their cloud environments to multi-cloud environments and adopt or double down on a hybrid model of storing their data.

According to Deloitte, demand for public cloud services in Asia Pacific is expected to continue to grow and exceed $116 billion by 2024. IDC predicts that over the next two years, “as a service” solutions will take supported cloud needs for nearly 60% of businesses in the region.

As a result, the data management and protection challenge facing businesses will only intensify. Next-generation data management approaches and platforms enable organizations to keep pace with their digital transformation and resulting data generation, while strengthening their security postures.

Unburden businesses by moving away from legacy solutions

Digital businesses need a level of agility, flexibility, and scalability that traditional or legacy data management technology cannot provide.

Legacy solutions were not designed to fit into today’s modern computing environment, withstand today’s sophisticated cyber threats, or securely mine data for valuable, actionable insights.

Legacy data management solutions also add complexity in a multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environment, as they require organizations to manage a myriad of products from different vendors, resulting in “do-it-yourself” IT processes and policies. -even”, and even tailor-made techniques. solutions to be developed so that they remain functional, which entails higher costs and delays.

These limitations of legacy technology that compound the challenge organizations face in managing their growing proliferation of data will only get worse as new applications and technologies are adopted.

However, the most alarming challenge is protecting corporate data from the rapid growth and evolution of ransomware that seeks to disrupt and destroy business continuity by attacking data. Separately, EY’s 2021 Global Information Security Survey (GISS) found that defenses to mitigate ransomware were a sticking point for more than half of businesses in Asia-Pacific. .

Ransomware Evolution Requires Better Data Management and Protection

While organizations in Asia-Pacific may be able to defend against the relative lack of sophistication that is typical of first-tier or evolutionary ransomware attacks (Ransomware 1.0), which can be mitigated with traditional backup solutions and recovery, the second and third evolutions of ransomware – commonly seen today – require capabilities beyond those provided by legacy data management technology to mitigate their devastating effects and maintain cyber resilience.

The second evolution of ransomware attacks (Ransomware 2.0) focuses first on destroying backups and then on encrypting production data. This type of attack is designed to reduce the target’s ability to recover operations from backups, which limits the attacker’s ability to demand a ransom. More recently, in the third evolution of Ransomware (Ransomware 3.0), ransomware attacks focus on data encryption, exfiltration or theft to expose data for illegal sale in double extortion schemes.

Stopping attackers using sophisticated tactics and scalable ransomware approaches requires next-generation data management capabilities, including alignment with zero-trust security principles, leveraging AI-powered insights, and anomaly detection, and integration with third-party security solutions.

The inability to manage data – which shrinks a company’s attack surface – and deploy solutions that protect data in today’s growing cyber threat landscape will continue to force a significant number of companies to the region to make payments to recover the affected data. Unfortunately, this is becoming a real possibility for companies, with IDC finding that nearly half of companies in the region are willing to make payouts to attackers. Our recent survey – conducted by Censuswide – of over 2,000 IT and SecOps professionals in the UK, US and Australia found that 74% believe the threat of ransomware to their industry has increased over the past year and nearly one in two (47%) said their organization had been the victim of a ransomware attack in the past six months, demonstrating the very real threat ransomware poses.

Strengthen security postures with next-gen capabilities

By dramatically raising the stakes of cybersecurity, malicious actors and ransomware attacks have shifted the focus far beyond the established notions of perimeter, network and application, and security controls. As the threat landscape continues to challenge organizations’ cyber resilience, ensuring data security and trust at scale requires modern solutions designed to stay one step ahead.

At the enterprise and IT operations level, next-generation data management capabilities enable businesses to scale while effectively managing and protecting their data. In addition to enabling unparalleled flexibility and increasing operational efficiency, which lowers ownership costs, next-generation data management platforms help mitigate data sprawl by providing data visibility into hybrid and multicloud environments.

Not only is this a crucial capability that organizations need to effectively manage and protect their data, as it is a common contributor to data privacy and breaches, but it also helps them to Comply with data privacy laws and regulations.

Amid this threat-laden cyber landscape, including a third evolution of ransomware, delaying the modernization of security and data management will come at the peril of businesses. It is now imperative that enterprises augment their security strategy to incorporate a next-generation data management approach and, if necessary, technology that integrates and improves both their protection, detection and response against ransomware.

Next-generation data management platforms enable organizations to increase their cyber resilience and mitigate the impact of cyberattacks by enabling them to both protect and defend their business processes and data from being taken hostage, with measures such as immutable backup snapshots and WORM (write once, read many). WORM is a data storage technology mechanism that stores non-erasable and/or non-modifiable information after it has been written to a disc.

Cohesity’s DataLock (WORM) capability provides AI-based detection and analysis to identify anomalies and indicators of malicious data exfiltration in near real-time, and better respond to a successful attack with rapid recovery automation that delivers the speed, scale, and reliability that organizations need as the backbone of their security posture and cyber resilience.

Now more than ever, businesses need to increase their cyber resilience to reduce disruptions and downtime in the event of attacks, as it is a competitive advantage in a digital world where business is not s never stop.

However, a solid state of cyber-resilience can only be ensured through modern data management approaches and platforms that leverage state-of-the-art technology to integrate and protect hybrid or multi-cloud environments, provide data visibility end-to-end and have the necessary data. protection and recovery features to respond to cyberattacks, especially ransomware.

Global Enterprise Data Management Market was valued at USD 83.25 Billion in 2021, and it is projected to reach USD 94.65 Billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 14% from 2022 to 2028.

Westford, USA, Sept. 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — As businesses increasingly rely on data to make decisions, it’s no surprise that demand for data management solutions either increasing. enterprise data management market can help organizations achieve several goals, including improved decision-making and accountability, improved efficiency and productivity, and reduced risk.

From capturing and storing data to making it available for analysis, EDM solutions offer a holistic approach to data management. While there are many different EDM options, some of the most common services include data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), big data analysis, and report management. In addition to these traditional services, some vendors are offering innovative new offerings such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based data discovery and predictive modeling.

The major drivers for this growing demand for the enterprise data management market are the widespread awareness of the power of Big Data and the growing need of organizations to obtain lightning-fast insights to make better decisions. How are vendors coping with this growing demand for EDM?

According to analysis by SkyQuest, there has been a significant increase in demand for the enterprise data management market in recent years. This is due to the increasing complexity of data and the need for organizations to effectively manage their data to improve their business performance. As a result, the number of EDM solution providers has increased.

A number of factors have helped EDM solution providers grow their businesses. First, the demand for the enterprise data management market has been driven by the need for organizations to effectively manage their data assets. Second, many vendors have taken advantage of advances in technology to improve their solutions. For example, vendors have developed application programming interface (API) capabilities to allow them to integrate with other systems. Therefore, customers can use these APIs to more easily access data from other systems within an organization.

As vendors in the enterprise data management market continue to create innovative and pragmatic solutions to manage data across the enterprise, they are faced with the challenge of how to reach new customers and grow their business. There are a variety of growth strategies suppliers can explore to grow their businesses, including building on strengths, expanding product offerings, and developing marketing initiatives.

Some vendors in the global enterprise data management market have also focused on growing their customer base by building collaborative ecosystems with complementary vendors. By doing so, they can deliver comprehensive data management solutions at a lower cost than working alone.

In addition, suppliers can focus on developing new market segments by differentiating themselves from their competitors through innovation or quality of service. In doing so, they can capitalize on the needs of specific clienteles and attract new customers.

However, it is not only technological advancements that have helped the vendors in the enterprise data management market to grow their businesses. Another key driver has been the growth of cloud-based solutions. Many customers now want solutions that they can deploy on a cloud-based platform. This means that EDM solution providers can offer easy-to-use and elastic solutions that can be scaled according to customer needs.

Here are some of the key approaches that enterprise data management market players are adopting to stay competitive:

  • In September 2022, Schlumberger Enterprise Data Solution announced the launch of enterprise data management services. It started providing the solution powered by Microsoft Azure. The company aims to offer its services especially to organizations engaged in the energy industry to gain better understanding and control over data modernization.

  • In September 2022, Aiven entered the data warehousing market. With this in mind, the company has launched its new platform called Aiven for ClickHouse. This will allow the generation and analysis of real data

  • In September 2022, Oracle announced a lunch of its MySQL HeatWave platform on AWS. With the launch, it became the only company to provide analytics, OLTP, machine learning-based automation, and machine learning, and all within a single MySQL database.

  • In September 2022, Salesforce and Snowflake expanded their partnership to offer customers a personalized customer relationship

Unique, Customized Solution Gains Momentum in Enterprise Data Management Market

As the enterprise data management (EDM) market continues to grow, companies are beginning to realize the importance of meeting the unique needs and expectations of their customers. In a recent survey, 70% of respondents said they saw an increased demand from customers for personalized customer service and unique services. According to SkyQuest analysis, it was around 50% in 2021, which translates to 20% growth in just one year.

This trend in the enterprise data management market is likely due to companies starting to realize the value of big data analytics and insights. By understanding the needs and preferences of their customers, businesses can create more personalized experiences and improve their products and services overall.

To meet this demand, many companies have turned to third-party data management vendors who specialize in providing custom solutions to meet customer data needs. Third-party providers can provide a wide range of services, including data collection and analysis, data governance, data quality assurance, and customer relationship management (CRM). Additionally, these vendors can help companies identify and respond to customer requests for new features or enhancements to existing systems.

Third-party vendors in the enterprise data management market can offer several advantages over traditional enterprise data management (EDM) solutions. These benefits include increased service flexibility and customization, the ability to tailor services specifically to meet customer needs, and rapid response times to changing customer demands. These benefits have helped third-party vendors retain a significant share of the enterprise data management market.

There are many different business management tactics that claim to be the miracle worker of the corporate sector – where you are guaranteed to succeed as long as you take the time to do this one thing. It’s usually a clickbait, and it’s never a good idea to follow the advice of something that claims to be 100% effective.

However, certain aspects of business management can greatly increase the chances of success. It’s especially useful for new business owners who are still getting their feet wet and trying new things in their chosen industry. One particular aspect is the Data Management Platform (DMP), which can help transform your business in a number of surprising ways.

Why do we need data management platforms?

One of the simplest reasons why DMPs are so crucial is that they can help ease the burden of running a business. There’s no denying that running a business can be hard work, but it’s something you could potentially improve upon by taking a few necessary steps. With DMPs, you and your staff will have an easier time obtaining information to help your business thrive.

What kind of insight?

Whichever industry you choose, there are different types of information you can use to advance your business in a competitive industry. For example, you can better understand user behavior and potentially make important business decisions based on their feedback. Apart from your customers, you can also collect data on various trends regarding your industry.

In a world where knowledge equals power, the ability to decipher big data to figure out what you can do next is undoubtedly one of the keys to industry success. From customer insights to marketing insights, you can plan a roadmap for your business over the next few years. With such data, it becomes possible to personalize products and improve the customer journey.

What’s so important about personalized products?

Trust is one of the core values that can mean the difference between success and failure. Without the trust of your target demographic, there is very little hope that your business can outsmart the competition. That said, one way to earn your audience’s trust is to use personalized products, showing them that your business cares enough to meet their specific needs.

A company that takes the time to focus on the customer journey and develop personalized products is sure to gain followers quickly.

What can I do as a new business owner?

The data management platform is a great first step, allowing you to optimize your business and make your job easier. It also opens up the possibility of remote business management, especially if you outsource to third-party services through the cloud. Then collect customer feedback and use it to create a roadmap for the future of your business. Then, engage with them on social media and stay consistent!

Having a DMP allows businesses to compete with the best in the industry without putting too much effort into the process. Not only does this make your job easier, it also helps your staff carry out their responsibilities without overstraining themselves.

As volumes of unstructured data continue to grow, IT managers have understood the need to manage data differently, but are struggling to do so. According to a Komprise report, more than 50% of IT managers today manage at least 5 PB of data. This has increased significantly in just one year. 87% of IT managers consider managing the growth of unstructured data a top priority in 2022. This figure was 70% in 2021.

IT leaders in the United States cite their top challenges as follows:

  • move data to the cloud without disrupting users and applications
  • expensive data storage and backups
  • Obstructed visibility into data characteristics, and
  • comply with laws and regulations.

In 2022, the top priorities for managing unstructured data will be:

  • To move data to big data analytics platforms
  • Enable self-service so business users can securely leverage data services such as cloud, AI/ML, and data lakes, and
  • Optimize data storage infrastructure by increasing investments in cloud storage.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss the top challenges IT managers face in managing unstructured data and their top priorities for 2022.

The challenges of managing unstructured data

  • In 2021, only less than 40% of companies managed 5 PB or more of data. However, today more than 50% of organizations deal with that much data.
  • Nearly 68% of IT managers say their organizations spend more than 30% of their IT budget on data storage, backups and disaster recovery.
  • Hybrid cloud is the leading storage architecture, with 50% of organizations reporting a mixed on-premises and cloud storage environment. The percentage of IT managers reporting on-premises-only environments fell to 11.9% in 2022 from 20% in 2021.

cloud benefits

  • 42% of IT managers say moving data without disrupting users and applications is their biggest challenge. It is important to move data to the best storage platforms in terms of performance and cost. However, sometimes users cannot find their files once they have been moved. This can create a lot of frustration for everyone involved.

Unstructured Data Management Priorities

Main objectives

  • When asked about their goals for improving their unstructured data management strategy, IT managers say the number one goal was to be flexible. That means they want to be able to adopt new storage and cloud technologies without spending extra money on licenses or other fees, like cloud egress fees. This shows that organizations want more than just cost reductions, they also want to take advantage of new technologies and switch between them as needed to meet changing business goals and user needs.
  • The second most important goal for IT managers was to achieve a systematic approach to data management to reduce manual effort and complexity. This requires automated policies for data movement.
  • IT leaders also prioritized better visibility and analytics for better planning, reducing manual effort and errors for data migrations, and the need to better support broader data initiatives and business needs. departments.

Future strategies

  • 47% of IT managers want to invest in cloud NAS, followed by cloud object storage (43%). In addition to reducing costs, 43% believe that cloud migrations improve self-service for end users and departments.
  • Unstructured data and AI/ML are ushering in a new era for enterprise data analytics. 65% of organizations plan or already provide unstructured data to their big data analytics platforms. Automating the process of moving datasets to processing and analytics platforms will accelerate the ROI of big data analytics initiatives. Other new approaches to managing unstructured data are discussed below.

new strategies

  • Beyond cost savings, the newest use cases companies are most interested in managing unstructured data for are protecting sensitive data (63%), followed by big data analytics (41%).
  • 53% of IT managers rate advanced analytics and reporting as the most important capability of unstructured data management solutions. Other key requirements for unstructured data management software are proactive monitoring and alerting of key events, a data service becoming unresponsive or abnormal activities, and data tagging and searching.

abilities

Conclusion

Enterprise IT organizations are changing the way they work. Instead of managing storage, they now manage data. That’s because there’s so much innovation in the cloud. IT managers want users to be able to use the cloud to accelerate collaboration, processing, and AI/ML projects. They also want users to have a good experience and for the company to benefit from this change. To do this, they need to focus on a data-centric approach rather than a storage-centric one. This way, IT managers can stop buying and managing storage technology and focus on providing an effective unstructured data management practice.
