Danelec acquires KYMA to improve its data collection services – Digital Ship
Danelec Marine, a Denmark-based company that designs and develops maritime hardware and software for data collection and security, has signed an agreement to acquire KYMA, the Norwegian specialist in digital vessel performance monitoring.
The combined company would be the largest provider of marine data collection solutions in the world, with more than 10,000 vessels using its solutions worldwide to optimize travel routes and vessel performance, as well as reduce CO2 emissions. The company’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform enables automatic and digitized data collection, which plays a critical role in enabling correct, convenient and efficient emissions reporting to comply with international regulations on maritime emissions.
Thanks to its SaaS technology platform, Danelec Marine supports the maritime industry’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions by providing precise, regular and reliable data coming, for example, from sensors installed in the exhaust system or in the engine room to measure fuel consumption. Based on this information, engineers on board ships and in land-based control centers can operate the ship in the most fuel-efficient manner, reducing the amount of carbon dioxide and other harmful substances such as than NOx and SOx.
âWe are proud to welcome the KYMA team to the Danelec family. Together, we will create a global leader in maritime data collection and intelligent navigation technologies to deliver accurate, consistent and reliable data to safeguard the competitive advantages and regulatory compliance status of shipping companies worldwide â said Casper Jensen, CEO of Danelec Marine. âBy operating ships in the most efficient manner, intelligent navigation plays a vital role in creating a more resource efficient future for the global consumer. We look forward to working with the KYMA and Verdane teams to realize our vision of generating value from maritime data.
Based in Ulset on the west coast of Norway, KYMA develops and manufactures specialized performance monitoring software and products for all types of vessels. With an installed base of over 5,000 vessels worldwide, KYMA is recognized as a Tier 1 supplier, with products and services supplied to over 400 shipping companies and shipyards, including Hyundai, MSC, Maran Tankers, BW Group and Samsung Heavy Industries.
Halldor Rongve, CEO of KYMA, said, âFor over 50 years, KYMA has pioneered marine performance monitoring solutions. Today, we are developing this proud heritage by joining Danelec Marine. In the face of changing regulations and ever-increasing demands for operational efficiency, we look forward to working with Danelec’s world-class team to deliver the on-board and cloud data solutions needed for intelligent shipping and the production of mandatory emissions reports digitally.
