New Delhi:
Michelin announces the acquisition of RoadBotics, an American company specializing in the analysis of road infrastructure images.

Founded in 2016, RoadBotics uses artificial intelligence to analyze visual data collected on roads by cameras (mainly smartphones). Using RoadBotics’ computer vision expertise1, images are transformed into actionable information that helps road managers identify priority maintenance areas.

With this acquisition, Michelin is supporting the development of the services and solutions already offered by MICHELIN DDi (Driving Data to Intelligence), a Group activity dedicated to the analysis of data and driving behavior.

The computer vision expertise developed by RoadBotics, combined with Michelin’s DDi know-how, will provide unique insights into the root causes of near-misses based on driving behavior. As a result, their decisions will be easier, faster, more relevant and their road safety management more effective. The service will first be available in North America before being rolled out in Europe.

According to Lorraine Frega, Deputy Managing Director – Distribution, Services and Solutions, Strategy, Innovation and Partnerships of the Michelin Group, this new acquisition is part of Michelin’s growth strategy around tires.
