Professor (all degrees) in Data Engineering for Intelligent Data Services at Arizona State University

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking candidates for several tenure-track/full-time faculty positions in “Data Engineering for Intelligent Data Services” at the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI). This research will target scientists and engineers with research in data-intensive computing for artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven cyberautonomy. Areas of interest include applied and theoretical innovations in cloud/edge computing and data management for AI and machine learning, data analytics systems, cyber-physical-social systems and services smart, secure and reliable data. Arizona State recently made new investments in the university in the areas of human performance, future communication technologies, extreme environments, and advanced manufacturing, as part of its New Economy Initiative ( NEI, https://impactarizona.asu.edu/ new economy initiative). SCAI is currently home to several ASU centers, including the Center for Assured and Scalable Engineering (CASCADE, https://cascade.asu.edu/), Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency (CAOE, https://caoe.asu.edu/), Center for Bioinformatics, Security and Society (CBSS, https://biodesign.asu.edu/biocomputing-security-and-society) Embedded Systems Center (CES https://ces.asu.edu), Center for Secure, Trusted, and Assured Microelectronics (STAM, https://stamcenter.asu.edu), Center for Cybersecurity and Trusted Foundations (CTF, https://globalsecurity.asu.edu/cybersecurity-and-trusted-foundations), Center for Pervasive Computing (CUBIC, https://cubic.asu.edu), ASU-Mayo Center for Innovative Imaging (AMCII, https://amcii.asu.edu), and AZ BlockChain Applied Research Center (BARC, https://www.azbarc.org) – and have a large number of professors working on a variety of relevant topics, including managing spatial databases and big data, l AI and Machine Learning, Secure and Confidential Data Services, and Trusted Data Analytics. The current openings aim to broaden and strengthen this expertise, which is crucial for university initiatives and velocity.

We are looking for applicants who will contribute to our programs and expand collaborations with existing ASU faculty. Located in Tempe with easy access to the outdoors and urban amenities, ASU’s dynamic and innovative approaches to research and teaching are forging new paths in education and research in the public interest. Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, develop and teach undergraduate and undergraduate courses, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and undertake service activities. ASU strongly encourages transdisciplinary collaboration and socially relevant, use-inspired research. Successful candidates will be encouraged to develop their expertise and collaborations in these areas. Although the tenure house may be at one of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence is currently most involved in areas of interest for this research.

Appointments will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor based on the candidate’s experience and achievements, beginning in August 2023.

Qualifications

Qualifications required:

  • PhD or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, data science, industrial engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment; proof of research excellence, depending on the candidate’s rank; evidence of excellence in teaching, depending on the candidate’s rank

Desired degrees:

  • Potential (for junior applicants) or evidence (for senior applicants) to establish a research program funded by external sources; commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching; proof of commitment to a diverse academic environment, depending on the applicant’s rank
