Sebi will engage an agency for on-site data collection during search operations
Capital markets regulator Sebi plans to hire an agency to provide assistance to its research team for on-site data acquisition during search and seizure operations.
In this regard, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has invited applications from eligible service providers experienced in digital forensics services for the acquisition, extraction and analysis of digital evidence from mobiles, computers and tablets, among others, on an ongoing basis. .
This comes against the backdrop of Sebi’s crackdown on entities allegedly involved in a high-profile scam using the Telegram messaging app. Recently, the regulator carried out a search and seizure operation at the premises of several entities in several locations across the country in the matter.
In a notice released Tuesday, Sebi said the agency will be required to provide on-site assistance to the search team and on-site data acquisition during search and seizure operations.
In addition, he will be required to undertake forensic acquisition/imaging of different types of digital devices, such as laptops, mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, hard drives, USB drives, CDs /DVD, servers, etc. The agency will be responsible for the detection, acquisition and analysis of data from cloud networks and perform such analysis as required by investigators using forensic tools. Listing the eligibility criteria, Sebi said the candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience in the field of digital forensics and should have at least 10 (full-time) digital forensics specialists who can perform the task of collecting and analyzing digital evidence, among others.
Interested agencies were invited to submit their applications by April 26.
